In 2016, a technical workshop involving fish resource specialists was convened to evaluate the status of Lake Sammamish “late-run” kokanee and consider strategies for conservation. The workshop results are described in a 2016 Ecological Survey, which recommended five high-priority strategies for adaptive kokanee management and filling identified data gaps. Two of the five strategies addressed adaptive kokanee management. The remaining three strategies involved filling major knowledge gaps regarding kokanee lake survivability and consequent high variability in spawner abundance. This report is an initial attempt to address one of the three knowledge gaps: Further analyze the potential relationship between the high variability of seasonal phytoplankton and zooplankton biomass and the high variability of kokanee abundance (and other species abundance).
