Whidbey Basin Monitoring: Year 2 Summary

Cover of Whidbey Basin Monitoring: Year 2 Summary This memo summarizes findings from the second year (2023-2024) of marine water quality monitoring in Whidbey Basin. These data are being collected to better understand impacts of nutrients, particularly in shallow embayments, and to validate and improve regional models. New moorings were installed in September 2023 that measure water quality at the surface and bottom of Penn Cove. Sampling frequency via R/V SoundGuardian was reduced from 2x to 1x monthly in January 2024. Dissolved oxygen was similar to previous years, but temperatures were warmer (similar to Central Basin) and phytoplankton were less abundant.
