Ocean acidification monitoring in Central Puget Sound: initial findings and future directions

First slide of presentation on ocean acidification monitoring in Central Puget Sound: initial findings and future directions

Presentation given at the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) conference on November 16, 2023 in Portland, OR. The presentation explored initial findings from the King County Ocean Acidification program, which collects data at two sites in King County marine waters via monthly bottle sampling and 15-minute continuous autonomous sensors. There is a robust relationship between total alkalinity and salinity at both sites. SeaFET pH and sonde pH data—collected by two different instruments at each site—proved to be messy and not particularly accurate. Further work is needed to refine these data, share data online, and decide whether new sensors would better serve program goals.
